360 Degrees of Giving
Aloha Air Cargo has a deep and long-term commitment to the betterment of Hawaii’s community and economy. The ‘Aloha Spirit’ that resonated throughout the Hawaiian Islands for the last 20 years from Aloha Airlines Cargo is unchanged and Aloha Air Cargo will continue to pave a legacy of connecting the Islands for the residents of Hawaii.
A true commitment to corporate philanthropy as well as a healthy work environment for employees are cornerstones of the company’s culture. Below are a few examples of how the Aloha Air ‘Cargohana’ supports the community they live and work within:
American Heart Association
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in Hawaii (and the nation), which poses a significant public health burden to the people of Hawaii. Mike Malik, President of Aloha Air Cargo, resides on the American Heart Association (AHA) board and with his fellow employees, participate in and support AHA’s various events, including their signature fundraising event, the annual Oahu Heart Walk.
Hawaii 3R’s Public School Program
Aloha Air Cargo staff has volunteered time for Hawaii 3R’s (Repair, Remodel, Restore our schools), offering “sweat equity” to Hawaii’s public schools. The program awards grants, to public schools that step forward with private contributions and/or volunteerism from the community, of equal or greater value to the requested grant amount. This way, the State saves thousands of taxpayer dollars, and the schools receive their much needed repair and maintenance, providing quality learning environments for Hawaii’s children.
Most recently on July 18, 2009, several dedicated employees, including President Mike Malik, helped to clean up and repaint the parking lot lines and pavement signage for Moanalua High School. Click the following link for more information on Hawaii 3Rs and Aloha Air Cargo.
Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation
Aloha Air Cargo champions sustainability by working with the Hawaii Farm Bureau Federation (HFBF) to ensure exclusive shipping rates are provided for farmers of locally grown and packaged foods. Shipping via overnight service is perfect for local farmers to transport their goods from farm to table since Aloha is the only air carrier to have refrigeration facilities at all cargo locations statewide. Aloha Air Cargo is also a proud sponsor of the Hawaii State Farm Fair held annually by HFBF. See the following news release for our special Aloha Air Cargo and HFBF partnership for Island sustainability.
Hawaii Food Bank
Aloha Air Cargo invested over $1 million towards the interior construction of the new Kahului Cargo Facility that handles cargo from 15 flights arriving or departing daily. After the facility’s blessing on May 6, 2009, 1,200 pounds of pineapple was purchased and transported as a donation to the Hawaii Food Bank.
As a company standard, Hawaii Foodbank collection boxes are also placed in each division of the company so donations can be garnered on a regular basis throughout the year.
Other Community Events
Aloha Air Cargo has also donated transportation services for Special Olympics Hawaii and continues the 20+ year long tradition of shipping lei from outer islands for the Annual Mayor’s Memorial Day Ceremony at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
